The EASTERN ORTHODOX CHURCH OF THE NATIVITY OF THE MOTHER OF GOD
The EASTERN ORTHODOX CHURCH OF THE NATIVITY OF THE MOTHER OF GOD
Welcome to our website. We hope you’ll find what you need here to learn about our parish, building and community.
Our church is the oldest Orthodox community in Bristol at 60 years old! Founded in 1948 it has become a focal point for many nationalities over the years, including Poles, Russians, Romanians, Ukrainians, British, and others within Bristol and the surrounding region. We gladly welcome everybody who is an Orthodox Christian, or not, to come visit us and perhaps stay a while.
Our services follow mainly the Slavic tradition we have adopted since the early days and follow the Julian ‘old’ calendar which is 13 days behind the we use day to day.
We are blessed to have as our home a building within the centre of Bristol, next to the University and easily reached by foot, bus or car. Presently we are undertaking a major rebuilding of the internal structure of the church involving the construction of a new Iconostasis and Sanctuary, a new meeting room and an entrance. Our liturgical life continues around this building work and we hope that you will visit us even during this period of change and new chapter in our parish history.
